Basketball Recap: Danielle Furman Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Harvey

Jefferson Area's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 46-32 victory over the Harvey Red Raiders. That's more bragging rights for the Falcons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jefferson Area's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danielle Furman, who posted eight points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Furman a new career-high in rebounds. Bella Boyd was another key player, putting up 12 points and six steals.

Jefferson Area smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

De?Yonna Jackson and Haleigh Lewis certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Jackson put up 12 points, while Lewis had 12 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 37.5% of Harvey's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Jefferson Area's record now sits at 2-5. As for Harvey, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Jefferson Area wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-49 victory against Kirtland on the 4th. As for Harvey, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-27 loss against Conneaut on the 6th.
