Softball Recap: Rio Rico Victorious

Rio Rico won the last time they faced Cholla and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hawks came out on top against the Chargers by a score of 11-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.

Victoria Madrid made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one run and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Rio Rico let Kenia Navarro and Mariana Santamaria run wild. Navarro went 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Santamaria got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave Santamaria a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley Bustamante, who earned two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.

Rio Rico's win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Cholla, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Rio Rico will square off against Sunnyside at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cholla, they will face off against Douglas at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
