Basketball Recap: Owensboro's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

If Owensboro was riding high fresh off their 58-32 takedown of Crittenden County last Sunday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Owensboro Red Devils opened the new year with a less-than-successful 76-68 loss to the Assumption Rockets. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Sunday (58), the Red Devils still had to take the loss.

Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keeley Harris, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Harris continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shalyn Sprinkles, who posted 21 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Assumption to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kyleigh Hall, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlinn James, who put up 11 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Owensboro moved to 7-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Assumption, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.

Owensboro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-61 win against Christian County on the 4th. As for Assumption, they will take on Cooper at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Assumption is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.7 points per game this season.
