The Serra Catholic Eagles will head out to challenge the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Serra Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Serra Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Eden Christian Academy as they made off with a 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Tyler Skaggs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Owen Dumbroski was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aiden Corbett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and one double.
Serra Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Chartiers-Houston never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Bethlehem Center with a sharp 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.
Brady Robaugh looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Justus Buckingham, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Aaron Walsh was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Serra Catholic pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Chartiers-Houston, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
