Calhan faced Byers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Calhan managed a 50-44 victory over Byers. The win was familiar territory for Calhan, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Brody Burnside threw for 75 yards and one touchdown on only seven passes. Joey Mast was his top target, picking up 52 receiving yards. On the ground, Jeremy Billington rushed for 278 yards and four TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per carry.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was James Maes, who threw for 192 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 34 yards. Benjamin McPherson was in the mix as well, providing Byers with two scores.

Calhan now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Byers, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Calhan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Byers, they will square off against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 42.2 points per game this season.
