League recap: Benjamin stuns Coral Springs Charter in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Coral Springs Charter, who took down 342nd ranked Coral Springs Charter, 10-3. Cooper Hopkins threw for 97 yards and one touchdown in the win.

John Carroll Catholic moved up to 412 from 482 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southeastern - North. The Rams climbed the ranks as a result of a 54-44 win over the Rams.

Pope John Paul II's dynamic duo of Raymond Rizk and Bryce Segui proved tough for John Carroll Catholic to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rizk threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns and Segui had 160 yards receiving. Will Jeanlys helped Pope John Paul II's passing attack out by catching one ball for 46 yards.

Elliot Slavic made the biggest impact on defense this week as Westminster Academy topped St. Andrew's. The senior racked up three sacks.

Edwin Thomas provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Rams lost to the Eagles. He completed one pass for 32 yards and also ran for 211 yards. Thomas' favorite target this week was Jeremy Miret, who caught two passes for 39 yards.

The Panthers' Joe McChrystal and Nick Marill have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McChrystal has thrown for 663 yards this season, while Marill, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 16 catches for 313 yards. DeQuan McGriff from Pope John Paul II leads the league in rushing with 521 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Pope John Paul II takes on second place Pine Crest. The Eagles beat John Carroll Catholic last week, while Pine Crest bested Coral Shores.

There should be lots of points scored when the Panthers and Pope John Paul II face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Pine Crest comes in having scored 123 this season, while the Eagles have scored 124. Jim Pletcher's team scored 38 points last week as it defeated the Hurricanes.

Pope John Paul II extended the longest winning streak in Southeastern - North this week by beating the Rams, 54-44. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Eagles.
