Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Durant's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Durant lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Newsome, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's match. Durant put the hurt on Newsome with a sharp 11-1 victory on Saturday. Considering the Cougars have won four games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Durant got a great performance from Owen Franklin as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Franklin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Durant let Brady Kelley and Jacob Purcell run wild. Kelley scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Purcell scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Purcell posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brantley Hayward, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Durant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newsome only posted an OBP of .125.

Durant has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Newsome's loss dropped their record down to 10-3.

Durant didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-0 defeat against Plant on the 17th. As for Newsome, they have also already played their next game, a 4-0 victory against King on the 17th.
