League recap: Barela throws longest pass in league this season for Golden

Michael Barela and Paris Salas provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Monarch. The longest such play in 4A Mountain this season, the connection resulted in 71 yards.

Broomfield extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating George Washington, 41-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Eagles.

Jacob Naranjo and Mario Spears gave Standley Lake a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Naranjo threw for 36 yards and two touchdowns, while Spears ran for 116 yards. Teammate Jordan Downing added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.

Alpoirtier Thompson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Montbello lost to the Gators. He completed 13 passes for 96 yards and also ran for 64 yards. Thompson's favorite target this week was Jante Gadson, who caught four passes for 51 yards.

Salas was the best wideout in the league this week as Golden fell to the Coyotes. Salas racked up two receptions for 98 yards. Matt Swim helped Golden's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.

The Warriors' Thompson and Marquille Jones have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Mountain in both passing and receiving yards. Thompson has thrown for 1065 yards this season, while Jones, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 38 catches for 471 yards. The Demons' Salas leads the league in rushing yards with 664.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Standley Lake takes on Broomfield. As it stands, Don Morse's team is in first, while Gary Davies' team is in third.

Monarch took down Golden 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Harrison Leachman ran for 52 yards and caught one passes for 58 yards in the win.
