Roosevelt is 1-9 against Hoover since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Roosevelt Rough Riders will take on the Hoover Patriots at 3:30 p.m. Roosevelt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Roosevelt made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Firebaugh, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Roosevelt was the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Firebaugh on Thursday. While the Rough Riders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Manny Molano was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Roberson, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Hoover came into Wednesday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Torres by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Lashawn Carey, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Nico Zuniga was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Roosevelt is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. Hoover's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6.
Hoover's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Roosevelt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. It's a different story for Hoover, though, as they've only averaged .224. Will they be able to contain Roosevelt's hitters?
Roosevelt suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Hoover in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Roosevelt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
