Volleyball Recap: Mitchell Takes Down Ranked Stevens

Mitchell faced Stevens in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Kernels sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Raiders. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (115-109) Mitchell actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 28-26, 18-25, 20-25, 16-14.

Mitchell found their leader in sophomore Londyn Hajek, who had ten digs and three assists. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Korzan, who had eight digs and three aces.

Mitchell pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Stevens, the loss snapped their winning streak at eight matches and leaves them with a 21-4 record.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mitchell is set to challenge their familiar foe Jefferson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Stevens will face off against rival Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
