Baseball Recap: Cuba Wildcats vs. Owensville Dutchmen
Cuba had lost nine straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-15 to make it ten. They came up short against the Owensville Dutchmen, falling 15-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 17-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
As for Owensville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.
For Owensville's part, Owen Binkhoelter looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Owensville let Logan Bailey and Chase Weirich run wild. Bailey went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Weirich went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Weirich has become a key player for Owensville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 7-9 otherwise. Jansen Loeb was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Cuba will host St. Clair at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Owensville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
