Baseball Game Preview: Pasadena Memorial Mavericks vs. Dawson Eagles

Pasadena Memorial hasn't had much luck against Dawson recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pasadena Memorial Mavericks will square off against the Dawson Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Pasadena Memorial's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Dawson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Tuesday, Pasadena Memorial didn't have quite enough to beat Dawson and fell 4-3.

For Dawson's part, Garritt Romero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. Romero also tossed no walks, which is notable because Dawson is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Dawson's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Botas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Botas has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another was Mason Walls, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

The win was the third in a row for Dawson, bringing their record for this year to 5-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pasadena Memorial, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6-1.
