Softball Game Preview: Vandalia Vandals vs. Staunton Bulldogs

Vandalia hasn't had much luck against Staunton recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vandals will venture away from home to face off against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m.

Vandalia is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since April 11th on Thursday. They lost 10-3 to Litchfield.

Vandalia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mady McCall, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Staunton owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They came out on top against Pana by a score of 4-0. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.

Not much got past Gianna Bianco, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Pana off the board. Bianco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lilly Bandy was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ele Feldmann, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Staunton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Staunton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Vandalia, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.

Vandalia might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Staunton when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Vandals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
