Basketball Game Preview: Wakeland Wolverines vs. Lone Star Rangers

Wakeland and Lone Star are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Wakeland Wolverines will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lone Star Rangers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Lone Star is hoping to do what Creekview couldn't on Friday: put an end to Wakeland's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Wakeland blew past Creekview 69-42. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Mustangs are ranked 778th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lone Star, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 89-41 blowout they got against Turner. That looming 89-41 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rangers yet this season.

Lone Star is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.4 points per game. As for Wakeland, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.

Wakeland came up short against Lone Star in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 64-52. Can Wakeland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
