Football Recap: Bridgeport Falls Despite Big Games from AJ Bishop and Jaki Threet

Bridgeport lost against Catholic Central back in October of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Bulldogs took a 22-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bridgeport's loss came despite strong showings from Jaki Threet and AJ Bishop. Threet rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, while Bishop rushed for 73 yards and one score. Threet also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making six total tackles.

It was another big night for Matthew Sprochi, who rushed for 172 yards and one TD while picking up 7.2 yards per carry for Catholic Central. Those 172 rushing yards gave Sprochi a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyran Busic, who rushed for 37 yards and a pair of scores.

Bridgeport's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Catholic Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Bridgeport and Catholic Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 674th) will meet Magnolia (ranked 101st) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Catholic Central will take on Wheeling Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (613 vs. 22).
