On Friday New Bern's undefeated season almost came to an end. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the East Carteret Mariners a 2-0 shutout. The two-run effort marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Anna Champey's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 15 Ks. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, New Bern saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenzie Richardson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

New Bern's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Carteret, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

New Bern didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 24-0 victory against Northside - Jacksonville on the 19th. As for East Carteret, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-4 defeat against Croatan on the 19th.
