Softball Recap: Dixon Gets the Win

Dixon had won three straight at home, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 11-4 to make it four. They had just enough and edged out the Rodriguez Mustangs 6-5. That's more bragging rights for the Rams, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Dakota Gaball made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. Gaball was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Gaball wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rachael Cayabyab, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Allison Latham, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

As for Rodriguez, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

On Rodriguez's side, Amelia Morrison spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Ellie Steiger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Jasmyn White also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Dixon will host Natomas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams are facing the Nighthawks at the right time seeing as the Nighthawks are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Rodriguez, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
