Basketball Game Preview: Dawson Dragons vs. Sands Mustangs

Dawson hasn't had much luck against Sands recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dawson Dragons will face off against the Sands Mustangs at 6:15 p.m.

Dawson is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They were beaten by Klondike 57-16. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1390th, while the Cougars are ranked 684th).

Meanwhile, Sands made easy work of Loop on Tuesday and carried off a 44-19 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Sands is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for Dawson, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.

Dawson was taken down by Sands 57-16 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Dawson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
