The Amherst County Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Brookville Bees at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Amherst County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Amherst County lost to the Pioneers at home by a decisive 54-40 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Amherst County in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now lost eight in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jaion Morris, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Zech Lilly, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Brookville took a serious blow against the Hilltoppers on Tuesday, falling 74-30. While losing is never fun, Brookville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while the Hilltoppers are ranked 143rd).
The losing side was boosted by Tristan Harbour, who scored 12 points. That was a full 40% of Brookville's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Amherst County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Brookville, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Amherst County was able to grind out a solid victory over the Bees in their previous matchup back in January, winning 49-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Amherst County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
