Football Recap: Bishop O'Connell Takes a Loss

Saturday just wasn't the day for Bishop O'Connell's offense. They were outmatched by St. Mary's Ryken and fell 49-0. While losing is never fun, Bishop O'Connell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 201st in Virginia, while St. Mary's Ryken is ranked 11th in Maryland).

Ryan Turpin threw for 34 yards on five of 12 attempts. On the ground, Nick Morris rushed for 27 yards.

Bishop O'Connell has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for St. Mary's Ryken, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Bishop O'Connell will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Archbishop Carroll at 1:00 p.m. on November 1. As for St. Mary's Ryken, they will take on Bishop Ireton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
