Basketball Recap: Torrington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Douglas

On Friday, Torrington faced Douglas in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Torrington Trailblazers were outmatched by the Douglas Bearcats and fell 70-41. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-26 back in January.

Douglas was led to victory by Jaden Meyer and Lauren Olsen. Meyer dropped a double-double with 17 points and 17 boards, while Olsen went 8-for-19 en route to 24 points and five assists. The match was Olsen's 36th in a row with at least 15 points. Bailey Wright was another key player, putting up seven points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Torrington and nudges their season record down to 8-6. As for Douglas, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-1.

Torrington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-14 win against Newcastle on the 15th. As for Douglas, they will take on Buffalo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Douglas knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Buffalo likes a good challenge.
