Baseball Game Preview: Grove City Eagles vs. Mercyhurst Prep Lakers

The Grove City Eagles will take on the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Grove City came up short against Mercer and fell 9-5.

Grove City got a good showing from Jaxen Pyle, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Nolan Renick was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Gilmore, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Mercyhurst Prep gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They never let Meadville get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hunter Krahe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Zack Kruszewski was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Noah Reigel was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Grove City came out on top in a nail-biter against Mercyhurst Prep when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will Grove City repeat their success, or does Mercyhurst Prep has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
