Football Game Preview: Friona Chieftans vs. Slaton Tigers + How To Watch

Friona and Slaton are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2016, but not for long. The Chieftans will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Friona is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 26.3 points per game this season.

If Slaton heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Friona took over last week. The Chieftans came out on top against Dimmitt by a score of 34-21 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chieftans.

Friona relied on the efforts of Aaron Rosales, who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores, and Jameson Daniels, who rushed for 108 yards and one TD on only nine carries. Rosales also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Chieftans are 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-6 otherwise.

Friona didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gael Lara and Mason Ramos.

Meanwhile, after only six points in their last matchup, Slaton made sure to put some points up on the board against Roosevelt on Friday. The Tigers strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 35-21. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 350th, while the Eagles are ranked 945th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Friona's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Slaton, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Friona was taken down by Slaton 50-22 in their previous meeting back in August. Can the Chieftans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
