Baseball Game Preview: Foresthill Wildfires vs. Western Sierra Collegiate Academy Wolves

Foresthill and Western Sierra Collegiate Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildfires will challenge the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Foresthill is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

On Wednesday, Foresthill made easy work of Encina and carried off a 25-1 win.

Cooper Stanowicz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs. He has become a key player for Foresthill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Abe Robenolt was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Foresthill is undefeated when Robenolt posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was David Silveira, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Foresthill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy's offense. They came up short against Valley Christian on Tuesday, falling 8-0. The Wolves' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Foresthill now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-5.

Foresthill couldn't quite get it done against Western Sierra Collegiate Academy in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 10-5. Can the Wildfires avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
