Basketball Game Preview: Clay City Eels vs. White River Valley Wolverines

The Clay City Eels will head out on the road to square off against the White River Valley Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Clay City is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past South Vermillion to the tune of 73-20 on Monday. While the Eels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Olivia Shidler went supernova, shooting 67% from the field en route to 28 points. Those 67% field goal percentage gave her a new career-high. Taylor Rhienhart was another key player, going 6-for-10 on her way to 12 points along with five assists and four steals.

Clay City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, White River Valley won against Shakamak on Saturday with 48 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Wolverines beat Cloverdale by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 48-39. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.

White River Valley now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Clay City, their record now sits at 5-2.

Clay City lost to White River Valley on the road by a decisive 57-39 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can the Eels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
