Murray has gone 6-1 against Cottonwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Colts at 3:30 p.m. Murray is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Murray fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Tooele on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buffaloes by a score of 8-7. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Savana Whitlock spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Eleanor Myers stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zaylee Winterhalder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Cottonwood was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against Park City, falling 11-1.
Cottonwood saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lola Grover, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Murray's record now sits at 7-7. As for Cottonwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Cottonwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Murray has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Cottonwood, though, as they've been averaging 11.4 hits. Given Murray's sizable advantage in that area, the Colts will need to find a way to close that gap.
Murray took their victory against Cottonwood when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-8 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
