Softball Recap: Port Clinton Wins Going Away Against Willard

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Huron, Port Clinton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over the Willard Crimson Flashes. The Redskins have beaten the Crimson Flashes the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Crimson Flashes has come to flipping the script.

Ashton Sanchez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jae Mazur was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five runs and three RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Gabby Howard was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Port Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willard only managed four hits.

The victory got Port Clinton back to even at 9-9. As for Willard, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Clinton will host Northwood at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Willard, they will be playing at home against Huron at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Crimson Flashes surely won't give up without a fight.
