Basketball Game Preview: Schuylerville Horses vs. Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks

The Schuylerville Horses are taking a road trip to challenge the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Schuylerville is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Schuylerville is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Glens Falls last Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Schuylerville was dealt a 59-27 loss at the hands of Glens Falls. While losing is never fun, the Horses can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 600th, while the Black Bears are ranked 188th).

Coxsackie-Athens has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost 63-37 to Stillwater on Thursday. The Riverhawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.

Despite the defeat, Coxsackie-Athens saw an underclassman step up: freshman Annabelle Hagen dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. Hagen is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Even though they lost, Coxsackie-Athens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Schuylerville's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Coxsackie-Athens, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-3.

Schuylerville was dealt a bruising 66-32 loss at the hands of Coxsackie-Athens in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Schuylerville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
