Softball Recap: Lancaster Comes Up Short

Lancaster dropped their record down to 10-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Highland Bulldogs, falling 14-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since March 4th.

Ashlee Laxamana was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Highland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.3 runs.

On Highland's side, Alaina Diehl made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Diehl has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Highland let Evalina Chavez and Bella Williams run wild. Chavez went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Williams went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Chavez has posted since back in March. Kenzie Martinez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Lancaster is set to take on their familiar foe Palmdale at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Highland will challenge rival Quartz Hill at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Bulldogs have won four straight at home, while the Royals won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
