Recap: Ponderosa Mustangs vs. Castle View Sabercats
You can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Ponderosa Mustangs's strategy against the Castle View Sabercats on Thursday. Ponderosa strolled past the Sabercats with points to spare, taking the game 62-45. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Ponderosa also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Ponderosa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Keach, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Keach hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Wilhelm, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Castle View still got an impressive performance from Vitorio Dante, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 51.1% of Castle View's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Larenzo Dixon, who scored six points.
Ponderosa pushed their record up to 12-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points per game. As for Castle View, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponderosa will take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highlands Ranch knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully the Mustangs likes a good challenge. As for Castle View, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Douglas County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Sabercats in Colorado (the Huskies are ranked 15th, while the Sabercats are ranked 60th).
