Preview: Eastern Ramblers vs. Roosevelt Roughriders
Eastern has been on the road for ten straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Roosevelt Roughriders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Eastern faced Banneker in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Eastern enjoyed a cozy 53-37 victory over Banneker. Eastern pushed the score to 43-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Banneker cut but never quite recovered from.
Samia Greene was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with three steals. Greene is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lanaia Martin was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, Roosevelt gave their fans yet another huge win last Wednesday. They blew past Ballou, posting a 55-23 win on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Roosevelt has posted since December 13, 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Roosevelt to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lamar'sha Wilson, who scored 15 points along with six steals. Wilson hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jalyn Russ, who scored seven points along with nine steals.
Eastern's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Roosevelt, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Eastern have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Eastern was dealt a bruising 29-2 loss at the hands of Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Eastern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
