Baseball Recap: New Canaan Has No Trouble Against Westhill

After only two runs in their last game, New Canaan made sure to put some runs up on the board against Westhill on Saturday. The Rams blew past the Vikings 10-4. Considering the Rams' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Stuart Hellmann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on 13 hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because New Canaan is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gianluca D'Andrea, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Thomas Shullman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

The win got New Canaan back to even at 9-9. As for Westhill, they dropped their record down to 5-13 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

New Canaan will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair will be back at it again later today.
