Softball Game Preview: Yucca Valley Trojans vs. Moreno Valley Vikings

The Yucca Valley Trojans are taking a road trip to square off against the Moreno Valley Vikings at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Yucca Valley came up short against Rancho Mirage and fell 12-9. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Rattlers: they've now lost four in a row.

Hannah Cusack was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stole at least one in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayla Monroy, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Moreno Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Norte Vista on Tuesday. Everything went Moreno Valley's way against Norte Vista as Moreno Valley made off with a 17-2 win.

Alexys Vasquez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Moreno Valley let Sophia Miramontes and Mia Licon run wild. Miramontes scored three runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-5, while Licon scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Licon has posted since back in March of 2024. Yahaira Esquivel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Yucca Valley now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Moreno Valley, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Yucca Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Moreno Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
