Softball Recap: Calvin Comes Up Short

After flying high against Converse last Saturday, Calvin came back down to earth. The Cougars came up short against the Harrisonburg Bulldogs on Tuesday, falling 14-7. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Kyleigh Blundell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Blundell is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Calvin's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-10. As for Harrisonburg, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Calvin Cougars challenge Montgomery Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Harrisonburg, they will venture away from home to take on Vidalia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.67 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
