Baseball Game Preview: Hawkins Hawks vs. Pewitt Brahmas

For the second straight game, Hawkins will face off against Pewitt. The Hawks will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Brahmas at 10:00 a.m. The last three games Hawkins has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hawkins is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pewitt 7-6.

Brayden Givens made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Hawkins got a big performance out of Eli Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Smith has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tilar Maberry, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hawkins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pewitt only posted a batting average of .192.

Hawkins has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pewitt, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.
