Softball Recap: Lakeview Wins Going Away Against Hesperia

Lakeview's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hesperia Panthers a 16-0 shutout. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Katelyn Buchner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baylor Syrjala, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Breanna Castle, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Lakeview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lakeview's win bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Hesperia, their defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-13.

Lakeview will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair will be back at it again later today.
