Softball Recap: Cardinal Newman Takes Down Lincoln Park Academy in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cardinal Newman had no problem doing just that on Monday. They blew past the Lincoln Park Academy Greyhounds 16-1. Considering the Crusaders' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Cardinal Newman got a massive performance out of Elle Perrotto, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Perrotto a new career-high. Sydney Mahoney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Cardinal Newman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Cardinal Newman moved to 6-16 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they dropped their record down to 3-14-1 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Cardinal Newman didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-3 defeat against John Carroll Catholic on the 29th. Lincoln Park Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
