Volleyball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Takes Down Calipatria in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and St. Joseph Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Calipatria Hornets 3-0 on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Crusaders also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2021.

St. Joseph Academy never let Calipatria on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-10, 25-15.

St. Joseph Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Fontaine, who had 13 digs. Fontaine is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.

St. Joseph Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in seven consecutive matches.

St. Joseph Academy's win ended a four-match drought at home and bumped them up to 11-22. As for Calipatria, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-14.

Coming up, St. Joseph Academy will challenge The Cambridge School at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calipatria does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
