Softball Recap: New Prairie Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

New Prairie came out on top against Chesterton on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Cougars put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-1 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Ava Geyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Chelminiak, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addi Luther, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

New Prairie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

New Prairie's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Chesterton, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-6.

New Prairie will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Trojans: the pair will be back at it again later today.
