Recap: Steward Spartans vs. Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks
The Steward Spartans can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Miller School of Albemarle on the road to the tune of 51-17. The victory was nothing new for Steward as they're now sitting on six straight.
Steward's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sanai Green led the charge by scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds. Green has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Johnson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Miller School of Albemarle lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anna Smith, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Miller School of Albemarle struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Steward racked up 16 assists.
Steward is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Miller School of Albemarle, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Steward will head out on the road to take on Norfolk Collegiate at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Norfolk Collegiate will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Steward is ranked 50th). As for Miller School of Albemarle, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on North Cross at 5:00 p.m. on February 14th. North Cross is coming into the matchup with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Miller School of Albemarle will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
