Basketball Recap: Rachel Cassimiro's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Evangel Christian over Mt. Pleasant Christian

After flying high against Pineview Christian last Monday, Evangel Christian came back down to earth. The Evangel Christian Lightning took a 44-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lightning this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-57 back in January.

Evangel Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rachel Cassimiro, who posted eight points along with 20 boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Cassimiro a new career-high in rebounds. Lilli Whitfield was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 10 points and seven boards.

Mt. Pleasant Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bailey Boatman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Boatman is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Angelina Hood, who had 12 points.

Evangel Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Mt. Pleasant Christian, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Evangel Christian will head out to challenge East Central HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Pleasant Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
