Baseball Recap: Southside Comes Up Short

Southside came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Bertie Falcons, falling 15-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Seahawks have suffered since April 23, 2024.

Dexter Oden made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Taylor Ashley was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Southside dropped their record down to 3-3 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bertie, they moved to 1-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Southside will host Northside - Pinetown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northside - Pinetown has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something Southside will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bertie, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-3 defeat against Ridgecroft on the 14th.
