Softball Recap: Aquinas Institute Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Aquinas Institute ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-3 back in April.

Kendall Buttles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Buttles was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

In other batting news, Addison Whipple and Delaney Buttles did most of the damage at the plate: Whipple went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run, while Delaney went 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Buttles a new career-high. Olivia Ruiz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Aquinas Institute kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmyra-Macedon only managed six hits.

Aquinas Institute's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Palmyra-Macedon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aquinas Institute will challenge Brighton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Palmyra-Macedon, they will square off against Mynderse Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
