Escambia is 2-8 against Tate since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Gators will look to defend their home field against the Aggies at 6:30 p.m. Escambia will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Escambia will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Pensacola Catholic, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Gators came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Marcus Days, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Tate beat Sayre 7-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Aggies.
Tate also got a great performance from Zane Warrington as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Warrington a new career-high.
At the plate, Taite Davis was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Brayden Beck was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Tate lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Escambia pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tate, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Escambia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tate struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
