Softball Recap: Brown County Eagles vs. Cloverdale Clovers

Brown County fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Cloverdale on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cloverdale Clovers by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that Brown County has lost by just one run.

Brown County saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Sanders, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and an RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Hash, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Even though they lost, Brown County didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with nine strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cloverdale only tossed five.

On Cloverdale's side, Abi Welton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed eight innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Welton was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paisley Meyerrose, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs.

This is the second loss in a row for Brown County and nudges their season record down to 6-12. As for Cloverdale, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-15.

Brown County will head out on the road to take on Bloomington South at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Brown County has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Cloverdale, they will challenge White River Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. White River Valley will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
