Western Guilford takes loss despite strong efforts from Star Hughes and Leila Henderson

Recap: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Northwest Guilford Vikings

The Western Guilford Hornets lost against the Northwest Guilford Vikings back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Western Guilford took a 60-44 bruising from Northwest Guilford. Western Guilford has not had much luck with Northwest Guilford recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Leila Henderson and Star Hughes certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Henderson scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks, while Hughes scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks. Henderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Bridges, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Western Guilford has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Northwest Guilford, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Western Guilford will head out on the road to take on Southwest Guilford at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest Guilford presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Western Guilford in North Carolina (Southwest Guilford is ranked 122nd, while Western Guilford is ranked 314th). As for Northwest Guilford, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Grimsley at 6:00 p.m. Grimsley is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
