Football Game Preview: Ash Grove Pirates vs. Marionville Comets

Ash Grove hasn't had much luck against Marionville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Comets at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, Ash Grove lost to St. Vincent at home by a 41-26 margin.

Meanwhile, Marionville entered their tilt with Sarcoxie on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Bears 40-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Comets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Bears are ranked 217th).

Ash Grove better keep an eye on Bryer Guerin. He was instrumental in Marionville's win, rushing for 55 yards and two scores. An impressive showing, but Guerin really ramped things up playing D: he forced one fumble, made eight total tackles (4.0 for loss), and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception.

Marionville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

Ash Grove's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Marionville, their record now sits at 6-1.

Ash Grove couldn't quite finish off Marionville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 and fell 22-20. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
