Softball Game Preview: Gloucester City Lions vs. Delran Bears

The Gloucester City Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Delran Bears at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Gloucester City's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Delran's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Gloucester City gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Hammonton.

Delran not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10th (when they won 16-0). Everything went their way against Audubon as they made off with a 7-1 victory. Considering the Bears have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Olivia Powell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.

On the hitting side, Elaina Faux and Gemma DeJoseph did most of the damage at the plate: Faux went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double, while DeJoseph got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Arianna Martinez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Delran kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Delran's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. As for Gloucester City, their record is now 7-3.

Gloucester City came up short against Delran in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, falling 9-4. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
