Baseball Recap: Southern Aroostook Takes a Loss

Southern Aroostook extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-7 in the process. They lost 20-9 to the Katahdin Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 on May 13th.

Connor Lilley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Southern Aroostook is 2-1 when Lilley posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Collier, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Katahdin, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.

On Katahdin's side, Connor Edwards made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Edwards has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since May 5th.

In other batting news, Conor Schmidt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Martin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Southern Aroostook will square off against rival Ashland at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Katahdin is set to face off against their familiar foe Hodgdon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 2.9, the Hawks 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
