Baseball Recap: Pioneer Valley Comes Up Short

Pioneer Valley extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-10 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Bishop Montgomery Knights. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Pioneer Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Cortez, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Bishop Montgomery, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.

On Bishop Montgomery's side, Pierson Howe spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Howe has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Ethan Peterson was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Matthew Orozco was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Pioneer Valley has already played their next game, a 7-2 defeat against St. Francis on the 24th. As for Bishop Montgomery, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 16-5 loss against Righetti on the 24th.
